Did Santa Bring You Any Tools for Your Pet Sitting Business?
Filed Under My Pet Business |
This year I asked my husband for a new Pulse Smart Pen that I saw reviewed by Lynn Terry on her blog Clicknewz.com. I was lucky and he found one for me (at the local Target!).
This pen is so cool - everything you write is automatically scanned by the pen so that when you connect it to your computer via USB it is uploaded as a scanned page of text that you can then email, or save as a file. It will also record audio as you make notes and the audio is captured and linked to whatever you write. If you want to go back later while you are reading your notes - you can tap the pen on a word and it will start playing the audio that was recorded while you wrote that note!
I tried this out while listening to a recorded tele-seminar the other day and it was so easy. I just turned the pen on - tapped the recorded button on their notebook paper - and listened and wrote notes. It is all recorded on the pen if I want to go back later and refresh my mind on what was said. The only draw back is that you have to use the pen on special paper. The pen did come with a 100 page notebook and you can purchase new notebooks - 4 for $20 which seems pretty reasonable.
I want to put this to good use this year by giving you access to some of my notes and audio here at Working with Pets - just another gadget to let me share my ideas with you.
So - did Santa bring you anything that you are going to put to use in your business in 2009? Leave a comment and tell me about it!

I am drooling! That is something I was hoping for but not yet. I expect a full report! All I got was a computer tech that removed everything instead of just optimizing my computer system–trying to recover now…
It is great! I couldn’t believe how simple it is to work. With their notebooks somehow the pen knows which page you are on and when you plug it in via USB it all automatically uploads and shows you what you wrote on each page. It can also translate and be used as a calculator with a number pad on front page of the notebook. I love it!
I have been wondering about those pens. I heard Lynn talk about it too but I was wondering if it would be too techie for me. You made it sound pretty simple to use.
I didn’t get anything to use in my business but I did get a cool gift, a Roomba, one of those robotic vacuums. I’ll use it in my office so I guess it is kind of for my business. And should get some great videos of the thing chasing my dogs around or them chasing it that I can put on my blog.
The pen sounds like a wonderful tool to compliment any business or writer. I’m going to have to check it out. I upgraded to a blackberry so that I could stay in better contact with my pet sitting clients. Being in touch and in communications reach is very important. Being limited has cost me a new client here and there. Handhelds are so much more convenient than laptops and it helps to keep me not only a phone call away but an email away as well. I think in the long run my phone will pay for itself as I gain more clients and it will help me retain them if I can communicate with them in a flash. g~
Cathy and Gigi- thanks for your comments. The pen really isn’t very techie at all - I had it working within 10 minutes out of the box. You just download their software from an online site - not even a CD to put in the computer!
Gigi - do you use your Blackberry to send email updates to your clients while you are pet sitting for them? What other functions do you use - do you ever send them photos or videos of their pets?
I bought myself a new gift. A hard drive! I do colorful pet pals diaries for my pet sitting clients and it includes pictures of their pets while they were on vacation. Pictures take up a lot of space so I really needed it!
I like the pen that you mentioned. It’s got to save you time. I might have to get one. Hmmmm….
